What is Direct Selling

Direct Selling is a straight, precise way of telling and sending information to your customer about the product that you are selling. With this, knowing your customer and product are vital factors for having a successful business in diverse stages of the trade.

  • Know your product or service

How can you sell a product if you don’t know it well?  Nothing is worse than not being able to effectively represent your sale. You must first get the customer interested, and possibly overcome your customers’ objections.  The better your product knowledge, the more ammunition you have with you to complete the sale. This is one important thought in direct selling.

1) What makes your product or service better than the rest?
2) What are the features or benefits of your product or service?
3) What is not so good about your product or service? (How can you overcome the limitations?)
4) Who can benefit from your product or service and why?

When you know your product, you can sell your product.  As your customer asks questions, you can quickly answer them.  If your customers’ interest is weak, you can strengthen it.  So to make that sale, know about what you are selling.

  • Know Your Customer

In order to make that sale, you need to know your customer.  You need to first show a genuine interest in your customer. Here are some key questions you should get the answers to…

1) What is your customer’s name?
2) What want or need has your customer requested?
3) Why has your customer expressed their interest? (Don’t use the word “WHY”, it is often taken as an insult.)
4) How does your product or service benefit your customer?

Proper Execution of Techniques in Direct Selling

Knowing your customer is a key in making that sale. If your customer feels comfortable and important to you, then the sale is already half way there.  Showing a genuine interest in the customer keeps them involved in the sales process and even allows them to help you make the sale.  Keep your customer talking, ask questions and listen carefully to their answers.

Customers that feel you genuinely care about their needs are more likely to buy products from you vs. the competition. By showing that your customer as a person is important to you, a bad experience with a product or service sold by you previously can be overcome. While knowing your product it gives you confidence in selling. Afterwards applying strong strategies and proper execution of the above mentioned techniques will make you a powerful force in your field and even the whole Direct Selling industry.
