why is pumpin so confusing to me? i use to have a set way to nurse one breast this feeding then the other next

feeding. i got this pump today and now im all confused. i got 3oz when i pumped i breastfed the baby on one and pumped the other. the 2 hours later i nursed on the same breast i nursed on before then 2 hours later i nursed on the one i pumped on. im lost now when should i pump again and what breast? im just going to store the milk im not going to give her a bottle no time soon until i go back to work

Any time you pump or express your milk there will only be 1 to 2 oz of milk coming out that’s why when you breast feed a baby the baby is usually hungry every hour. In order to build up your milk supply with breast feeding or pumping you have to do it every hour on both breast (thats once every hour total for both breasts) then you can get 3 to 4 oz of milk out and you have to keep it up. When I had my son in 2003, I could pump 8oz of milk every hour thats from just one breast, I had too much milk and that dosen’t happen to everyone. Right now I’m 6 months pregnant and I can pump 2 oz of milk out of each breast. Make sure you have a good working pump with the right attachments that fit your breast, so you can benifit from that pump. It’s really not confusing, it’s just time consuming to do especially when you go back to work. Good luck!!!
