Sand Pail
Dreams built of sand, will you C/C please?
I’m aware of no meter or method. Thanks
Small pail, shovel scraping wet sand
trudging, dragging it’s weight,
thinking of a higher place,
to build her castle to the sky,
with a small child’s hands.
Crabs scrambling, so distracting,
chased, shells that sang,
Cup in hand, crafting towers
roughly teetering,
squealing, “NO”, just a child reacting.
A challenging task, needing to be helped
tiring of the trek, to where surf receded
fingers poked windows, holding inner secrets
Popsicle stick crafting dreamed of gates
a moat carved, finished, delight, she jumped and yelped.
Held by the hand, led back to drier land
looking back, beaming, knowing such dreams
that would carry her to fanciful images, things
Tides change, young, she was unaware
tomorrow, washed back, to mounds of sand.
