Off Cards
Is it better to pay off 2 year old credit cards or use the money as a larger down payment on a vehicle?
I have 9 cards totaling $8100 which I have not paid for 2 years. I am not receiving collection calls or letters(thank God). I need a new(er) vehicle and know I’d be more likely to get financed with a larger down payment. Should I pay off the cards (settle) and put a smaller amount down or put a large amount down and forget the cards? Also if I pay the cards doesn’t that “start the clock” on the debt again? Thanks!
You need to pay off those credit cards. If you want to buy a home, having that debt out there is going to make it very hard to qualify for a good loan. Own up to your debt because it is on your credit report and they will probably come after you for it.
