Night Safety
Who to ask about workplace safety at night?
My wife works at a local thrift store where sometime she has to close the store at night. This usually means she’s left alone for up to 2 hours after everyone has left. But my biggest concern is the parking lot lights usually go out well before she leaves so when she finally does leave; it’s to a dark and empty lot. Plus the store is by itself and not in a strip mall.
Who would I contact on this matter? Has any safety laws been broken?

You can contact your local police station and request frequent drive bys and also give them the time of when your wife leaves..I used to run Walgreen’s and it’s what we did..The police are usually glad to help and also get her to stop the police who drive by and talk to them in person..I got to know all the ones who drove by and kept me safe..I would also have your wife call the person who owns the store..If it is owned by the store itself they should be required to have lighting and if it’s owned by another person request that lighting be put in for safety concerns..I would also have your wife move her car up next to the building before all her workers have left, and carry pepper spray as soon as she steps outside..these are the things I did when I worked alone at night..Good luck.
