How is the cornea cut in laser surgery?
I’d like to have it done but the thought of the cornea being cut freaks me out! How is it done?
First, numbing drops are used to anesthetise the eye, then an instrument called a microkeratome is placed over the eye at a precise angle. The microkeratome is held in place by a gentle vacuum. The surgeon will then start the microkeratome, will will then make a very clean incision of the cornea.
NO sutures are involved with LASIK surgery. One the surgery is complete, the surgeon will then place the hinged corneal flap back in position and smooth it. You may feel a slightly gritty feeling as your eye heals. The flap will adhere to the eye without any problems.
