Is alcohol (or gin in particular) making me violent?
Most of the time I wouldn’t hurt a fly but now and again I lash out playfully at someone making a joke at me and hit them harder than I mean to. My gran has a history of being abusive with alcohol and I’m wondering if I’m going the same way? My boyfriend made a rude sex joke about me in front of my friends at a party to get back at me for putting a glowstick down his back and before I even thought about it I tapped him on the side of his face with my fist. It wasn’t that hard but I always forget he doesn’t like being slapped in the face so afterwards I get guilty and scared he’s going to leave me. I always apologise sincerely after but I want to stop it happening altogether. Thing is he thinks I’m great fun when I’m tipsy most of the time so I don’t know whether to stop drinking and be shy and boring or to keep drinking with him (he drinks quite a bit when he’s out) and try to control it. Any advice?
He made a “rude sex joke” about you in front of your friends. You were bound to react but you would probably have told him off rather than hit him if you were sober. Alcohol makes people aggressive so probably best if you cut down the amount you drink or have lower alcohol options.
