6 Fun Birthday Themes for Boys

Themes for boys birthday parties can cover a wide range and allow for experimentation. You’ll need to take into account the birthday boy’s age to keep things sophisticated.  Here are six fun themes to consider:

1. Cars

Cars can be a theme for a party at home or at a different location. You could even have the party at a go kart track. Just make sure that you get parental permission beforehand and that everyone meets any age and height requirements. For younger kids, have a lot of fun with the invitations. Cut out different circles and squares that your child can paste onto a car cut out that you make from simple construction paper. Then, print out the date and time on another piece of paper and glue it to the back. Make sure that it fits in an envelope.

You can give out small toy cars as favors. Hang a banner of black and white flags for simple decor. You can even wrap presents in a black and white checked paper. Decorate a sheet cake in gray and yellow so it looks like a race track.

2. Poker

Poker is an age-appropriate theme for older boys. Look for oversized playing cards that you can hang around the room. You can do an entire black and red theme. Give the birthday boy a new poker set that he can use on game night. Serve his favorite appetizers like pigs in a blanket or hot wings.

3. Wild West

A cowboy theme is appropriate for younger boys. Head to the dollar store and stock up on expensive sheriff stars. Bandanas work as handkerchiefs. You may even be able to find felt cowboy hats that kids can take home as favors. Cut out the invitations in the shape of boots. You could have a roping contest as a party game. Serve stew or chili with cornbread.

4. Pirates

For this theme, you’ll need skull and cross bone flags, pirate chests, eye patches, fake earrings and bandanas. Create a pirate dress up station that guests can use when they first arrive. You might even have fake tattoos if the other parents are okay with it. Take the kids on a treasure hunt by putting clues in bottles. At the end, everyone can find a chest full of party favors.

5. Sports

If your kid has a favorite hobby, then show it off on his birthday. This is also an inexpensive theme because you can decorate with a lot of sporting equipment that you already have. This can work for children of all different ages and could even include a round of miniature golf. Order or bake a basic sheet cake. Bright colors and basic lines can represent a field or court. Give out packs of baseball cards as favors.

6. Animal Themes

Animal themes are suitable for younger kids. You can decorate with stuffed animals. It’s also a chance to allow your pets to be a part of the party as long as the animals are secure from kids who may be afraid of them. Decorate with fun safari animal print tablecloths. You can create your own banners by cutting out zig zags for a zebra or irregular dots for a cheetah or giraffe.
