Favors Cake

Favors Cake
How are favors presented in the US?

Where I am from, people get a box (about the size of half a shoebox) filled with cake and other goodies, and a favor. They are all displayed on a separate table and people get one at the end of the night when they are about to leave the reception. But I have been reading about weddings in the US and it seems like people get them at the dinner table at the beginning of the reception? Is that so?

There is no set way that favors are presented. Favors can means many different thing depending on the geographic location in the US and also the ethnicity and family background of the bride and groom. Some receptions have cookie tables with hundreds each of dozens of types of cookies (I have seen as many as 3 dozen types of cookies with 24 or 36 dozen of each type) are presented for the guests. There are bags provided and guests fill their bags with whatever cookies they choose. Some receptions have individual boxed slices of fruitcake for each guest (my mother made fruitcakes two months ahead so that the cakes could be bathed in brandy every day for two months before slicing and boxing). This was a tradition from my Father’s family in the midwest. From my Mother’s family tradition, we made pastries from Spain that were boxed for the guests to take with them. Sometimes it is a net bag with 3 Jordan Almonds, or a box of marzipan, I have even seen Candy Bars (a table full of candy) color coordinated to match the wedding colors. It just depends on the families, their traditions, their budget, and how much time they have to prepare goodies ( and how much freezer space they have-my father bought a second freezer three months before my wedding) before the wedding.
