Dinner Napkins
I am in a formal dinner, in front are utensils, my plate, napkins, glass wares etc. What will I do?
What utensil will I pick up first, then what’s next, what follows, if I want to drink then how will I hold the glass , purse my lips after I swallow? then how about the napkin , I’ll have it spread in my lap first before I picked the first utensil- will this be a spoon, a fork or what? How I will take the soup? I would like an elegant dinner that will please everyone… how much will I eat… just a little of anything? What talk will I entertain? How can I make myself talk good while eating and appearing urbanized and sexy?
Just remember Outside to Inside. The utensils for the first course are on the outside of the table setting. The utensils for the main course are closest to the plate. The utensils for the dessert are either at the top of the plate, or sometimes the server provides them right before that portion of the meal. If you have the whole sticks of butter, not the individually wrapped butter chips, use the butter knife to put butter on your plate, not directly on your bread.
The talk will range on subjects depending on who is at the table. In general, don’t talk about religion or politics or what goes on in the bedroom. If you don’t know what to say, try asking a question about the person. People love to talk about their own life experiences. Wear neatly pressed clean clothes of appropriate length and coverage, relax and be yourself.
