Centerpiece Luau
Need Help with 50th anniversary party?
I have never planned such a huge party. It will be in July and I thought about doing a beach theme or luau theme. I think it will be an informal party but I am unsure if I should have fine china or paper plates for the food. Also I am in need of some ideas to decorate the tables. I don’t know what I should have on the tables (need ideas on centerpieces and what to place on tables) I am having a dessert table with pineapples made into a tree and a buffet table. Please give me ideas and help me plan this party.
The type of plate ware you use should be determined by what you will be eating. For example, if eating burgers, paper wood be fine but if your eating meat that needs to be cut, china is more appropriate. Party supply stores rent out china at a pretty good price.

For center pieces I would use flowers, maybe Bird of Paradise (they’re from Hawaii) anything colorful is tropical. Maybe surround flower pots with tropical grasses tied on with raffia string and have plants in them. They can be given away as a door prize, you know, if the number under you plate matches the number under the pot its yours.

You can have inexpensive leis (can be gotten from Michaels also) that aren’t made with real flowers for the guests just to unify the theme.
Also, look at party supply stores to buy flatware. You can get a dozed stainless steel forks for under $2.00. It holds up better than plastic. If you don’t want to keep them, you can donate them to a soup kitchen afterwards.
Remember, Colorful is the key to tropical.
One last suggestion. This is something we did for my parents 50th. Instead of gifts suggest that a monetary gift to contribute to an incredible tropical vacation be made instead. I have 8 brothers and sisters so we contributed as did the 50 guests we invited and we were able to send them to Paris. Its just an idea, but its a good one.
