Adult Child
Do you think a adult child is obligated to have a relationship with their mother?
During their childhood they were neglected in all ways. She tended to other peoples needs instead of her child. Now the child is a adult in her 30′s this same mother wants to have a relationship like a mother and daughter should. The daughter dealt with her over the years the way she knew how too. Her constant criticizing about things now has force her to stop contact. She does buy things for the grandchildren. I guess this is part of her way of making up for what was done.
The actions you do have consequences later. If you neglect or abuse your child, you should not be surprised if that child doesn’t want to have anything to do with their parent once they are grown. Since the child is now an adult, they have choice of whether or not they want their mother/ father in their life. There is no obligation just because the now-adult is having kids. Giving gifts to the grandchildren does not change what happened. If the original mother wants to create a relationship with their kid, they need to do lots and lots of talking. They need to recognize what they did to them and apologize. Over and over. Even after all this, there should still be no expectation of their kid coming around and having a big happy family.
