The World Airline Awards 2007

There would be no airports without airplanes, so they say. Therefore, alongside the World Airport Awards 2007 comes the World Airlines Awards 2007. The World Airlines Awards are recognized around the world, and renowned for being the only truly global, independent passenger survey of airline standards. The awards are given annually by Skytrax, a UK-based consultancy which conducts commercial airlines research. And for 2007, Singapore Airlines is the passengers' choice after winning the Airline of the Year title in the World Airline Awards.

1. Singapore Airlines. 7th in 2006.

Bubbling under but within the world's best ten are the following air carriers:

2. Thai Airways. 4th in 2006.

3. Cathay Pacific. 3rd in 2006.

4. Qatar Airways. 6th in 2006.

5. Qantas. 2nd in 2006.

6. Malaysia Airlines. 9th in 2006.

7. Air New Zealand. 18th in 2006.

8. China Airlines. 10th in 2006.

9. Emirates. 5th in 2006.

10. British Airways. 1st in 2006.

I boarded a Singapore Airlines flight both to and from Singapore just last July 2007. I must agree they offer excellent in-flight experiences but aside from that, I think they also have a superb loyalty program. Not that I redeemed any miles already, but most people that I know from Singapore (and others who often book SQ flights) attest to the good loyalty program of the carrier. The program, I think, is called Krisflyer.

I was surprised though, not to see Japan Airlines (JAL) and Royal Dutch (KLM) in the top ten. I wonder where did they went short.
