If you want to relish Catholicism, go shopping, experience Warsaw fine dining, while simply enjoying the beauty of this European city, then Warsaw Old Town and Castle Square is the best place for you. The Old Town and Castle Square is a popular tourist destination, with lovely souvenir shops, cozy cafes and restaurants, and spacious churches. The square was laid out somewhere between the 13th and 14th centuries. Despite the fact that the historic houses around it were razed to the ground during World War II, now, after a series of reconstructions, renovations and facelifts, it has never looked quite so beautiful.
Warsaw's pride and showcase. Old town is the city's main tourist destination. Reconstructions done in such a scale such as Old Town's had no precedent; the enourmous effort was duly appreciated by UNESCO, which put Warsaw's Old Town on the World Heritage List.Plac Zamkowy (Castle Square) must be the most frequently visited sight in Warsaw. It is overlooked by the bronze statue of King Sigismund III, founded by his son Wladyslaw IV, who has kept watch from his column since 1644. The Royal Castle was built at the beginning of the 15th century, though it only began to rise to prominence after the capital of the united kingdom of Poland and Lithuania had been moved from Krakow to Warsaw.
Tourist moms. Above are my colleagues Janis and Nhien, getting a shot by the statue of King Sigismund III.
Water, anyone? That's me beside a large, ancient well found at the center of Warsaw's Old Town.
Shopping at its finest. Cozy jewelleries, bookstores, and novelty shops line the cobblestone streets of Old Town. Unfortunately, most of them are overpriced.
Fleur de Polska. These large flowery basins only add up beauty to the already picturesque Old Town and Castle Square.
War traces. Some of the buildings inside Old Town are still reminiscient of the war, despite reconstructions. Shown above are bullet holes paneled in a store's exterior.
Museum and Cafes. Those charming structures behind me houses some of Warsaw's museums. Cafeterias are also abundant in Old Town.
Pirates of Vistula River. Old town is no exception for practical jokes. My friend, Alex, was ambushed by a group of young pirates. Ü Back to Chasing Daylight home
